1) Ayn is autistic, she therefore is a special needs child. Derek has done nothing but fight for her rights within the school system. The school was not able to control Ayn so they made a class room at the back of a class for her, away from all other students. We are obviously well trained with special needs children.....
2) The school unable to control Ayn fights Derek on every level, they are if anything one of the causes of Ayn being abducted into a system of control.
3) Ayn goes missing for less then an hour, Derek panicked calls the police, Ayn is found and returned and everyone is happy. As I have quickly learned Autistic children do wander, this is a behavior...certainly not a reason to abduct.
4) 4 days later Derek realizes that everything is NOT O.K. he is given an option...and this I love, either hand Ayn over or....now get this...we`re going to take her anyhow. That`s quite the option....
5) Ayn is taken from her school without an explanation or goodbye. I am not at this time going to discuss what this must have done to her, I have to much to say on this matter for this post.
6) Ayn is then put into a hospital and heavily medicated.
7) Ayn is then put into a foster home and still medicated.
8) The meds are lessened and Ayn is now returned to the school that had so many problems with her.....Returning her to a problematic situation is fine but it is not fine to return her to her parents. This obviously would prove to harmful. Or what ever other bogus reason they are choosing to use this week.
9) Ayn is back in school and now Derek if invited to attend her IEP meeting. Although the school is not permitted to contact him about Ayn he will get to sit in on this meeting.
I am scared for Derek this morning, scared he will get there and get no say into her education or this current school year. I am scared that he will be dealt the humiliation card once again that does nothing but strip parents of any dignity they may have left.
Stay strong Derek. This is only round .....10?
Update: Derek attended the first meeting with his SW and the family outreach worker... then had a private meeting with the SW, then a meeting with the CYSN rep about the MCFD offer of services, then the CYSN rep for the At Home program, then had a long lunch with the SW, then off to the IEP meeting.
I am not going to lie, that is a lot of meetings for one little girl. Derek does feel that the worker is supportive of returning Ayn to his home. They do continue to push for him to visit with Ayn. Please see my views already blogged about visitation.
